International Beach Clean Up
Thanks to everyone who came down to help with our clean up on 24 September at Avoca Beach as part of International Coastal Clean up month. We got it done (just!) between the storms and saw the sun briefly! We had 36 people attend our event so a great turn out for a rainy Saturday!
Thanks to everyone who helped with the sorting. To make our cleanup efforts count, we can’t just stop with picking it up. Collecting information on the types of litter found is integral to tackling ocean plastic pollution, as it can provide important data to understand, and, most importantly, fix the problem. Overall we collected more than 52kg of rubbish including 16kg glass bottles, 2kg plastic bottles, cigarette butts and 6kg of soft plastics so well done everyone. We send our clean up data to Clean up Australia to be included in the Australian Marine Debris Database a national initiative which documents the amounts and types of marine debris impacting beaches and waterways around the country.
Many thanks to Central Coast Council, Clean Up Australia and Clean4shore for supporting our clean up event.
